What is Allah's Favorite Month?

Published in Islamic Months 2 mins read

Muharram is considered the best month after Ramadan and is held in high regard.

According to Islamic tradition, Muharram is esteemed as a particularly sacred month in the Islamic calendar. A Hadith attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) states: "The best month after Ramadhan is the month of Allah which you call Muharram" (An-Nasa'i, As-Sunan Al-Kubraa: 4202). This highlights the significance and blessings associated with this month.

Here's a breakdown of why Muharram is considered so important:

  • Sacred Month: Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam, during which warfare is forbidden.
  • Voluntary Fasting: It is highly recommended to fast during Muharram, especially on the 9th and 10th days (known as Tasu'a and Ashura, respectively).
  • Historical Significance: Ashura commemorates significant events, including the day Noah left the Ark and the day Moses and his followers were saved from Pharaoh. It's also a day of mourning for Shia Muslims, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
  • Month of Allah: The Prophet (PBUH) attributed Muharram to Allah, implying its great importance and honor.

While Ramadan holds the highest status due to the obligatory fast and the revelation of the Quran, Muharram follows closely as a month of increased devotion, reflection, and remembrance.
