Jazz is roughly a little over a century old, originating in the early 20th century.
Jazz emerged from New Orleans during the second decade of the 1900s. While pinpointing an exact birthdate is difficult due to the gradual evolution of musical styles, the 1920s marked a significant period when jazz entered the cultural mainstream, coinciding with the phonograph boom that also propelled the popularity of blues and "hillbilly" music.
