Jellyfish lifespans vary greatly by species; most live for about a year, while others only live for a couple of days. Some species, however, possess a unique ability that renders them potentially immortal.
Jellyfish Lifespan
The lifespan of a jellyfish hinges on its species. While the majority have relatively short lives, some are exceptions to the rule:
- Short-lived species: Some jellyfish species only live for a few days.
- Typical lifespan: Most jellyfish live for about a year.
- The immortal jellyfish: The Turritopsis dohrnii can revert to its polyp stage when threatened or injured, creating younger versions of itself identical to its mature adult form, thus circumventing death from old age.
