How do you measure your hand for bangles?

Published in Jewelry Sizing 3 mins read

There are primarily two ways to measure your hand for bangles, depending on the bangle style: by measuring your hand circumference for closed bangles or your wrist circumference for open or cuff-style bangles. You can also measure a bangle that already fits you well.

Measuring for Closed Bangles (Full Circle)

These bangles must pass over your hand, so the largest part of your hand is what determines the size.

  1. Bring your thumb and pinky finger together: This mimics the position your hand will be in when sliding the bangle over.

  2. Measure around the widest part of your hand: Use a flexible measuring tape to measure the circumference of your hand at the knuckles. Alternatively, you can use a piece of string or ribbon, marking the point where it meets, and then measure that length against a ruler.

  3. Determine your bangle size: Use the circumference measurement to find your corresponding bangle size on a sizing chart. Bangle sizing charts typically list circumference in inches or millimeters and the corresponding bangle diameter. Here's a sample chart:

Circumference (Inches) Bangle Size (Diameter in Inches)
    7 1/8 - 7 1/2 2 3/8 (Extra Small)
    7 5/8 - 7 7/8 2 1/2 (Small)
    8 - 8 1/4 2 5/8 (Medium)
    8 3/8 - 8 5/8 2 3/4 (Large)
    8 3/4 - 9 2 7/8 (Extra Large)

Note: This is a sample chart, and sizes may vary between manufacturers. Always check the specific sizing chart provided by the seller.

Measuring for Open/Cuff Bangles

These bangles have an opening and slip onto your wrist, so you measure your wrist circumference.

  1. Measure your wrist: Use a flexible measuring tape to measure snugly around your wrist, just above the wrist bone.

  2. Determine your bangle size: Cuff bangles often come in small, medium, and large. Check the manufacturer's sizing guide for wrist circumference ranges. For example:

    • Small: 5.5 - 6 inches
    • Medium: 6 - 6.5 inches
    • Large: 6.5 - 7 inches

Measuring an Existing Bangle

If you have a bangle that fits comfortably, you can measure its inner diameter.

  1. Measure the inside diameter: Place the bangle on a flat surface and measure straight across the inside from one edge to the other. This is the inner diameter.
  2. Use the diameter to find your size: Compare the diameter measurement to a bangle sizing chart to determine your bangle size.

By accurately measuring either your hand circumference, wrist circumference, or an existing bangle's diameter, you can find the perfect bangle size for your needs.
