How to Keep a Pendant in Place?

Published in Jewelry Tips 2 mins read

To keep a pendant from sliding, flipping, or generally moving around on its chain, consider the following strategies:

  • Choose a Pendant with Fixed Attachments: Look for pendant designs where the pendant is attached to both ends of the chain. This prevents the pendant from sliding along the chain, keeping it centered.

  • Opt for Heavier Pendants: A heavier pendant has more weight, making it less likely to move around easily.

  • Consider Chain Thickness: A thicker chain, especially one that fits snugly through the pendant's bail (the loop that connects the pendant to the chain), can help reduce movement.

  • Use a Bail with a Smaller Opening: The bail's size is crucial. A smaller opening on the bail will restrict the pendant's movement on the chain.

  • Add a Bail Stabilizer: These small devices attach to the chain on either side of the bail, preventing the pendant from tilting or flipping. You can find these at jewelry supply stores.

  • Secure with Jewelry Cement (If Applicable): Caution: this is a PERMANENT solution. If you have a pendant that you never want to move, you could consider using a tiny drop of jewelry cement to adhere the pendant to the chain in the desired position. This is best suited for pendants on chains that you only intend to wear together.

  • Try a Different Chain Length: Sometimes, the length of the chain contributes to the movement. Experiment with shorter or longer chains to see if it improves the pendant's positioning.

By considering these factors, you can significantly improve the way your pendant sits and minimize unwanted movement.
