How Do I Import Slides into Keynote?

Published in Keynote Presentations 2 mins read

One straightforward way to import slides into your Keynote presentation is by copying them directly from another Keynote file.

When you want to incorporate slides you've already created in a different Keynote presentation, you can easily drag them from one file to the other using the slide navigator. This method is quick and effective for combining content from multiple sources into a single presentation.

Steps to Import Slides from Another Presentation

Importing slides this way is a simple process involving just a few steps within Keynote:

  1. Open both Keynote presentations: Have the presentation you want to copy slides from and the presentation you want to copy slides into open side-by-side or accessible via the application switcher.
  2. Navigate to the Slide Navigator: Ensure the slide navigator (the sidebar showing thumbnails of your slides) is visible in both windows.
  3. Select the Slides: In the slide navigator of the source presentation (the one you're copying from), click on the individual slide you wish to copy. To select multiple slides, hold down the Command key (on Mac) or Control key (on Windows) while clicking, or click the first slide, hold Shift, and click the last slide to select a range.
  4. Drag and Drop: In the slide navigator, click to select a slide or select multiple slides of one presentation, then drag them to the slide navigator of the other presentation. Position the dragged slides where you want them to appear in the destination presentation's slide order.

This method seamlessly integrates the selected slides into your current Keynote file, maintaining their content and basic formatting.

Importing Considerations

  • Formatting: While the content is preserved, the styling (fonts, colors, layouts) of the imported slides may adapt to the theme and master slides of the destination presentation. You might need to make minor adjustments after importing.
  • Efficiency: Dragging slides is ideal when you need to transfer specific slides or sections from one Keynote file to another without recreating them.

By following these steps, you can efficiently import slides from existing Keynote presentations to build your new deck.
