Will drinking water reduce protein in urine?

Published in Kidney Health 1 min read

Drinking water will not treat the cause of protein in your urine unless you are dehydrated. Drinking water will dilute your urine, but it will not stop the cause of your kidneys leaking protein. While drinking more water can dilute the urine, meaning there will be less protein per unit of urine, it doesn't actually reduce the amount of protein being excreted by the kidneys.

If you are concerned about protein in your urine, you should see a doctor to determine the underlying cause. There are many reasons why protein may appear in the urine, including kidney disease, infections, and high blood pressure.
