An oil separator measuring cup allows you to easily separate fat from drippings and stocks. Here's how to use one:
-
Let the juices settle: Pour the drippings or stock into the separator measuring cup. Allow the mixture to sit for a minute or two so the fat rises to the surface. This settling time is crucial for effective separation.
-
Observe the fat layer: You'll notice the fat separating and floating on top of the leaner juices or stock.
-
Pour from the bottom (or use the spout): Most oil separators work by allowing you to pour the liquid from underneath the fat. This is usually done by a spout located at the bottom of the cup, or sometimes by a spout near the top that only draws from the bottom. The design prevents the fat from being poured out. The strainer on top will catch any unwanted pieces.
-
Stop before the fat exits: As you pour, carefully observe when the fat layer starts to approach the spout. Stop pouring before the fat comes out, leaving the unwanted fat behind.
-
Clean the Separator: After using, clean the cup and strainer thoroughly to prevent residue build-up.
