To fix a kitchen sink securely to a worktop, you need to position the sink correctly and then use the supplied fixing clips.
Positioning the Sink
Before securing the sink, you must first position it accurately in the cut-out of the worktop. There are typically two common methods for achieving this seal and initial placement:
- Supplied Edging Strip: If your sink comes with an edging strip, this is often used around the edge of the sink or the worktop cut-out to create a seal and help position the sink.
- Silicone Bead: Alternatively, you can apply a bead of silicone sealant directly onto the cut edge of the worktop opening. This creates a waterproof seal and helps hold the sink in place initially.
Once the sealant or edging strip is in place, carefully lower the sink into the opening.
Securing the Sink with Clips
After positioning the sink, the primary method for fixing it firmly to the worktop involves using the supplied clips. These clips are designed to grip the underside rim of the sink and the underside of the worktop, pulling them together.
- Locate the supplied sink clips.
- Attach the clips to the underside of the sink rim according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Position the clips so they can engage with the worktop.
- Use a screwdriver or appropriate tool to tighten the clips.
- Crucially, use two clips on each side of the sink (front, back, left, and right) to ensure even pressure and a secure fixation.
- Tighten the clips gradually and evenly across all sides until the sink rim is pulled firmly down onto the worktop, compressing the sealant or edging strip.
This process of positioning the sink and then tightening the clips around the underside rim is what secures the sink firmly in place on the worktop, preventing movement and ensuring a watertight seal.
