Kiwi eggs are remarkably large, especially when compared to the size of the kiwi bird itself.
On average, a kiwi egg weighs around 440 grams (approximately 15.5 ounces). This is about 20% of the average weight of an adult female Northland brown kiwi. A substantial portion of this weight, about 60% (250 grams), is yolk, making kiwi eggs some of the most yolk-rich eggs in the bird world. The sheer size and composition of the egg represent a significant investment of energy for the female kiwi.
