The knee joint is actually made up of two distinct joints: the tibiofemoral joint and the patellofemoral joint.
- The tibiofemoral joint is located between the end of the thigh bone (femur) and the top of the shin bone (tibia).
- The patellofemoral joint is located between the end of the thigh bone (femur) and the kneecap (patella).
These two joints work together to allow the knee to bend, straighten, and rotate.
