Where is the Knee Artery?

Published in Knee anatomy 1 min read

The arteries around the knee joint are located both at the level of the joint and below it.

Arteries at the Knee Joint

  • Middle Genicular Artery: Found at the level of the knee joint.
  • Sural Arteries: Also located at the level of the knee joint.

Arteries Below the Knee Joint

  • Inferior Medial Genicular Artery: Located below the knee joint.
  • Inferior Lateral Genicular Artery: Located below the knee joint. These connect to the tibial arteries.

The genicular arteries (middle, inferior medial, and inferior lateral) and sural arteries, along with connections to the tibial arteries, provide collateral blood flow distal to the knee, ensuring continued circulation even if one pathway is compromised.
