What bends the knee?

Published in Knee Flexion 1 min read

The muscles located at the back of your thigh are primarily responsible for bending the knee. These muscles are commonly referred to as the hamstrings.

Muscles that Flex the Knee

The hamstring muscles include:

  • The biceps femoris: This muscle connects to the top of the fibula on the outside of the leg and helps to flex the knee.
  • The semimembranosus: Connects to the tibia on the inside of the leg and assists in knee flexion.
  • The semitendinosus: Also connects to the tibia on the inside of the leg, working alongside the semimembranosus to bend the knee.

These muscles work together to allow for the bending motion of the knee joint.
