How Do You Use Lash Primer?

Published in Lash Application 2 mins read

Lash primer is applied to clean, dry eyelashes before applying mascara. It preps the lashes for mascara application, boosting its effects by adding volume, length, and/or helping the mascara stay put.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use lash primer:

  1. Clean Your Lashes: Make sure your eyelashes are clean and free of any makeup or oils. Use a gentle eye makeup remover if necessary.

  2. Dry Your Lashes: Ensure your lashes are completely dry before applying primer.

  3. Apply Lash Primer: Apply a thin, even coat of lash primer to your upper lashes, starting at the base and working your way to the tips. Use the primer wand just like you would a mascara wand. You can also apply it to your lower lashes if desired.

  4. Let it Dry (Slightly): Allow the primer to dry for about 30 seconds before applying mascara. It should still be slightly tacky. This helps the mascara adhere better.

  5. Apply Mascara: Apply your mascara as usual, coating each lash from base to tip. You may find you need less mascara than usual to achieve your desired look.

Benefits of Using Lash Primer:

  • Enhanced Volume and Length: Many lash primers contain fibers or polymers that add volume and length to your lashes.
  • Improved Mascara Performance: Primer provides a base for mascara to grip onto, preventing clumping, smudging, and flaking.
  • Increased Mascara Longevity: It can help your mascara last longer throughout the day without fading or transferring.
  • Lash Conditioning: Some primers contain conditioning ingredients that nourish and protect your lashes.

Note for Lash Extensions: A different type of "primer" is used in lash extension application. This primer is applied to natural lashes before the extension application to remove any remaining oils or residue, ensuring better adhesion of the lash extensions. In this case, the professional applies the primer with a micro swab or applicator.
