How do I remove the function keys from my Lenovo?

Published in Lenovo Function Keys 2 mins read

To disable the function keys (F1, F2, etc.) on your Lenovo laptop and revert them to their standard functions, you need to disable the Lenovo Fn and Function key service. Here's how:

  1. Press the Windows key.
  2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter. This will open the Services window.
  3. In the Services window, scroll down until you find "Lenovo Fn and Function key service" or something similarly named (it might vary slightly depending on your Lenovo model and installed software).
  4. Right-click on the "Lenovo Fn and Function key service" entry and select Properties.
  5. In the Properties window, go to the General tab.
  6. Find the "Startup type" dropdown menu. Change it from "Automatic" (or a similar setting) to "Disabled".
  7. Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.
  8. Restart your computer. This is crucial for the changes to take effect.

After restarting, your function keys should now perform their standard functions (like refreshing a webpage with F5) without requiring you to press the Fn key. If you want to access the Lenovo's special functions (volume control, brightness, etc.), you'll need to press the Fn key in combination with the function key.
