Cleaning Your LG Steam Washer

Published in LG Washer Cleaning 3 mins read

Cleaning your LG steam washer involves using the appropriate cleaning cycle and maintaining key components.

Maintaining your LG steam washer helps prevent odors, buildup, and ensures optimal performance. The primary method for deep cleaning the drum is using the built-in Tub Clean cycle, often supplemented with manual cleaning of other parts.

Using the Tub Clean Cycle

The Tub Clean cycle is designed to clean the inside of your washer drum using hot water and high-speed tumbling. Before starting this cycle, you'll need to add a cleaning agent.

According to LG's instructions for tub cleaning and maintenance:

  • Pull out and put aside the liquid detergent cup or tray. This step is necessary before adding powdered cleaner to ensure it goes into the correct compartment.
  • Add the powdered cleaner into the main Wash detergent Compartment. Place the recommended amount of powdered washer cleaner in the primary detergent slot.
  • If you are using a cleaning tablet, place the tablet directly into the drum. Do not place cleaning tablets in the detergent dispenser.

After adding the cleaning agent to the appropriate location, select and start the Tub Clean cycle on your washer. This cycle typically runs for over an hour and should be performed regularly, usually monthly, or when the washer indicates it's needed.

Other Essential Maintenance Steps

Beyond the Tub Clean cycle, regular manual cleaning is crucial:

  • Wipe the Drum and Door Seal: After every wash or the Tub Clean cycle, wipe down the inside of the drum and pay special attention to the rubber door seal (gasket). Moisture trapped here can lead to mold and mildew. Make sure to clean out any debris like lint or hair.
  • Clean the Detergent Dispenser: Residue from detergents and softeners can build up in the dispenser drawer. Remove the drawer if possible and wash it thoroughly with warm water and a brush. Clean the housing where the drawer sits as well.
  • Clean the Drain Pump Filter: Located at the bottom front of the washer, this filter can collect lint, coins, and other small items. Consult your owner's manual for specific instructions on how to access and clean it. Be prepared for some water to drain out when you open the filter cover. This should be cleaned periodically to prevent drainage issues.

Following these steps will help keep your LG steam washer clean, fresh, and functioning efficiently.
