How Do I Set Up My LG Front Load Washer?

Published in LG Washer Setup 4 mins read

Setting up your LG front load washer involves preparing the location, connecting water and drain hoses, leveling the unit, and plugging it in.

Setting up your new LG front load washing machine properly is crucial for optimal performance and longevity. The process involves several key steps, from finding the right location to connecting the necessary hoses and ensuring the machine is level.

Here’s a breakdown of the typical setup process:

1. Choose the Right Location

  • Select a flat, solid floor surface capable of supporting the weight of the washer and a full load of laundry. Concrete or tile is ideal.
  • Ensure there are nearby water hookups (hot and cold) and a drain standpipe or utility sink.
  • Provide adequate space around the washer for ventilation and ease of access for maintenance.

2. Remove Shipping Bolts

Before connecting anything, you must remove the shipping bolts. These bolts secure the drum during transit but will cause severe damage if left in place during operation.

  • Locate the bolts on the rear of the machine (usually 4 or 5).
  • Use the included wrench (or an appropriate tool) to loosen and remove them.
  • Install the plastic caps provided with the washer into the holes left by the bolts.
  • Keep the shipping bolts in case you need to move the washer in the future.

3. Connect Water Hoses

Your LG washer requires both hot and cold water connections. Use the new hoses that came with your machine.

  1. Locate your hot and cold water faucets behind the washer.
  2. Connect the hoses to the corresponding faucets. Typically, the red hose connects to the hot water faucet.
  3. Tighten firmly with pliers.
  4. Connect the other end of each hose to the corresponding inlet valve on the back of the washer (usually marked 'H' for hot and 'C' for cold).
  5. Tighten these connections by hand first, then use pliers for a final firm turn.
  6. Do not over tighten the faucet connection. Doing so can damage the valve or hose.

Make sure inlet screens are inside the hose couplings to prevent debris from entering the washer.

4. Connect the Drain Hose

The drain hose removes water from the washer during cycles.

  • Locate the drain hose outlet on the back of the washer.
  • Secure the drain hose to this outlet, ensuring a tight fit (sometimes a clamp is required).
  • Place the other end of the drain hose into a standpipe or over the edge of a utility sink.
  • Ensure the drain hose is installed according to the manufacturer's recommended height (usually between 30 and 36 inches from the bottom of the washer) to prevent siphoning. Use the provided elbow bracket to hook the hose over the pipe or sink edge.

5. Level the Washer

A level washer is essential to prevent excessive vibration and noise during operation.

  • Use a level placed on top of the washer (front-to-back and side-to-side).
  • Adjust the leveling legs located at the bottom corners of the machine by turning them up or down.
  • Once level, tighten the lock nuts (if present) on the leveling legs against the washer's frame to secure them in place.

6. Connect Power and Test

  • Plug the washer's power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
  • Turn on the water supply at the faucets.
  • Check all hose connections for leaks.
  • Run a short test cycle (like a Rinse+Spin or a small load without detergent) to ensure the machine fills, agitates, drains, and spins properly. Check again for leaks during and after the cycle.

By following these steps, you can successfully set up your LG front load washer for safe and effective use.
