How do you hide masks in Lightroom?

Published in Lightroom Masking 2 mins read

You can hide masks in Lightroom by using the "O" key or through the interface.

Here's how you can toggle the visibility of mask overlays in Lightroom:

  • Using the Keyboard: Pressing the "O" key will toggle the visibility of the selected mask overlay on and off. This is the quickest way to hide or show the mask.

  • Masking Panel: In the Masking panel, you can also control mask visibility. Look for an icon or option related to overlay display (often represented by a color swatch or an eye icon) associated with the specific mask you want to hide or show. Clicking this will toggle the overlay's visibility.

The mask overlay helps you visualize which areas are affected by your adjustments. Hiding the overlay allows you to see the image without the distraction of the colored overlay, so you can better evaluate the effect of your edits. You can cycle through different overlay colors (red, green, white, black) using Shift + O which can be helpful if the default color is difficult to see against certain parts of your image. This allows you to fine-tune and refine the masks more effectively.
