How do you move photos in Lightroom?

Published in Lightroom Organization 1 min read

To move photos in Lightroom Classic, you can drag them to a different folder within the Folders panel. Specifically:

  1. Locate the Photos: In the Lightroom Classic Library module, find the photo or photos you want to move.
  2. Open the Folders Panel: On the left side of the screen, ensure the "Folders" panel is visible. If not, open the "Window" menu and select "Panels" and then "Folders".
  3. Select and Drag: Click on the photo(s) you wish to move. Drag the selected photos from the center of the thumbnail, not the edge, to the desired destination folder in the Folders panel.

Important Considerations:

  • No Copying: Lightroom Classic moves the photos. It does not copy them. The original files are physically moved on your hard drive.
  • Hard Drive Changes: This action not only changes the photo's location within Lightroom but also physically moves the files on your computer's hard drive. Be certain of your destination.
