How do You Boomerang a Live Photo?

Published in Live Photo Effects 2 mins read

To boomerang a live photo, you convert it using the "Bounce" effect available within your Photos App camera roll.

If you have an Apple Live Photo, you can easily transform it into a fun, looping "boomerang" style video clip directly on your iPhone or iPad without needing extra apps. This built-in feature utilizes the short video burst captured with the Live Photo to create the effect.

Converting a Live Photo to a Boomerang Effect

The process is straightforward and involves using the effects built into your device's Photos application. Here are the steps:

  1. Access Your Camera Roll: Open the Photos App on your device.
  2. Locate the Live Photo: Navigate to your camera roll (often the "Library" or "All Photos" tab). Find and tap on the specific live photo that you want to convert into a boomerang. You can identify a live photo by the "LIVE" indicator usually found at the top left of the photo when viewed.
  3. Reveal Effects Options: While viewing the live photo, swipe up on the photo. This action reveals additional information about the photo, such as location, date, and a section dedicated to Live Photo effects.
  4. Select the "Bounce" Effect: In the Live Photo effects section, you will see options like Live, Loop, Bounce, and Long Exposure. Tap on the "Bounce" effect.
  5. Automatic Conversion: Tapping "Bounce" will automatically apply the effect to your live photo. The device processes the live photo's short video segment, playing it forward and then backward to create the boomerang loop.

Once you select "Bounce," the original Live Photo is replaced with the new Bounce version within your Photos app. You can share this "bounced" live photo, and it will play as a short, looping video clip similar to a traditional boomerang.

This method specifically applies to Live Photos captured on compatible Apple devices and utilizes the native Photos app features.
