The Core Deadbolt Mechanism

At the heart of a deadbolt is the cylinder lock, also known as the plug. This is where you insert the key.

  • Key Insertion: When the correct key is inserted into the cylinder (or plug), its unique cuts align internal pins (or wafers) within the cylinder. This alignment allows the cylinder to rotate freely.
