How to use a cover stick?

A cover stick, also known as a concealer stick, is used to conceal blemishes, dark circles, and other skin imperfections. Here’s how to use one effectively:

1. Preparation is Key:

  • Cleanse and Moisturize: Begin with a clean, moisturized face. This helps the concealer blend more smoothly and prevents it from clinging to dry patches.
  • Apply Primer (Optional): A primer can create a smooth base and help the concealer last longer.

2. Choosing the Right Shade:

  • For Blemishes: Select a shade that matches your skin tone as closely as possible.
  • For Under Eyes: Choose a shade that is one to two shades lighter than your skin tone to brighten the area. Avoid shades that are too light, as they can make dark circles appear ashy.

3. Application Techniques:

  • Direct Application: Apply the cover stick directly onto the blemish or area you want to conceal. Use short, light strokes. Avoid dragging the stick, as this can irritate the skin and spread the blemish.
  • Finger Application: For a more precise application, apply the cover stick to your fingertip and then gently dab it onto the skin. This allows for better control and prevents applying too much product.
  • Brush Application: Use a small concealer brush to pick up product from the stick and apply it to the skin. This is a good option for covering larger areas or for a more airbrushed finish.

4. Blending:

  • Use Your Fingers: Gently tap and blend the edges of the concealer with your fingertip. The warmth of your finger will help melt the product into your skin.
  • Use a Brush or Sponge: Use a concealer brush or a damp makeup sponge to blend the concealer seamlessly into your skin. Use light, patting motions rather than dragging or rubbing.
  • Around the Eyes: When concealing under the eyes, start from the inner corner and work your way outwards towards the lash line, blending carefully.

5. Setting the Concealer:

  • Loose Powder: Set the concealer with a light dusting of loose powder. This will help prevent it from creasing and keep it in place all day. Use a small, fluffy brush or a makeup sponge to apply the powder.
  • Pressed Powder: If you prefer a pressed powder, use a powder brush to gently press the powder onto the concealed area.

6. Additional Tips:

  • Build Coverage: Start with a thin layer of concealer and build up the coverage as needed. Applying too much at once can make the concealer look cakey.
  • Color Correction: For stubborn blemishes or dark circles, consider using a color corrector before applying concealer. For example, a green color corrector can neutralize redness, and a peach or orange color corrector can counteract dark circles.
  • Concealer as an Eye Base: A cover stick can also be used as an eye base to conceal discoloration around the eyes and help eyeshadow last longer.
