Using brush cleansing gel is a simple process to keep your makeup brushes clean and hygienic. Here's how:
-
Wet the Brush: Run your makeup brush bristles under lukewarm water. Be sure to keep the water flowing downwards to prevent water from getting into the ferrule (the metal part that connects the bristles to the handle), which can loosen the glue and damage the brush.
-
Apply Cleansing Gel: Squeeze a small amount (pea-sized) of brush cleansing gel onto the palm of your hand or directly onto the bristles of the wet brush.
-
Create a Lather: Gently massage the bristles against your palm or a textured cleaning mat (if you have one) in a circular motion. This will help to loosen and remove makeup residue, dirt, and oils. You should see a lather forming.
-
Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the brush thoroughly under running lukewarm water until all traces of the cleansing gel and makeup are gone. Again, keep the water flowing downwards. Gently squeeze the bristles to remove excess water.
-
Reshape and Dry: Gently reshape the brush head with your fingers to its original form. Lay the brush flat or angled downwards (with the bristles hanging off the edge of a counter or drying rack) to dry completely. This prevents water from seeping into the ferrule.
Important Considerations:
- Frequency: Clean your brushes regularly. Brushes used for liquid or cream products should be cleaned more frequently (ideally after each use or every few days) than brushes used for powder products (which can be cleaned weekly or bi-weekly).
- Product Buildup: If you notice a lot of product buildup, you may need to repeat the cleansing process.
- Gentle Handling: Avoid being too rough with the bristles, as this can damage them and shorten the lifespan of your brush.
- Complete Drying: Ensure the brushes are completely dry before using them to prevent bacteria growth.
