What Age Do Boys Get Erections?
Boys can experience erections from a very young age, even before birth! While the reasons can vary, erections are a normal part of male development.
Erections can occur in infancy, though the reasons differ from those in older boys. As boys begin to mature sexually, they will start experiencing erections more frequently. This sexual maturation typically begins anywhere between the ages of 9 and 15, lasting 3-4 years to fully complete. Even during childhood, most boys will experience erections, especially during REM sleep.
Reasons for Erections:
- Infancy: The exact reasons for infant erections aren't fully understood but are entirely normal.
- Puberty: Erections become more frequent and significant during puberty due to hormonal changes.
- Sleep: Erections often occur during REM sleep, regardless of age.
- Sexual Stimulation: As boys mature sexually, erections can be triggered by physical or mental stimulation.
It's important to note that having an erection at any age doesn't automatically indicate sexual attraction or activity. Erections are a natural physiological response.
Understanding Normal Development
Parents and caregivers should understand that erections in boys of all ages are normal. Open communication and education are vital to helping boys understand their bodies and develop healthily.
