How do you hide HDRI in Maya?

Published in Maya Rendering 2 mins read

To hide an HDRI (High Dynamic Range Image) skydome in Maya, you can adjust its visibility in the Attribute Editor.

Here's how:

  1. Select the HDRI Dome: In the Maya viewport or Outliner, select the object that represents your HDRI skydome.
  2. Open the Attribute Editor: Go to the Attribute Editor (usually located on the right side of the Maya interface). If it's not visible, go to Window > Attribute Editor.
  3. Locate the Shape Tab: In the Attribute Editor, find the shape node tab for your HDRI dome. The name of the tab will likely be the name of your dome object followed by "Shape." For example, if your dome is named "HDRI_Dome", the tab will be "HDRI_DomeShape".
  4. Find the Visibility Attribute: Scroll down the shape node's attributes until you find the "Visibility" section. If it's collapsed, click the arrow to expand it.
  5. Turn off Visibility: Uncheck the "Visible" checkbox. This will make the HDRI skydome invisible in the viewport and, more importantly, in your final renders.

By unchecking the "Visible" box, the HDRI will still illuminate your scene, providing the desired lighting and reflections, but the dome itself won't be rendered.
