The full form of vCJD is variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
vCJD is a rare and fatal prion disease linked to the consumption of beef from cattle infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as "mad cow disease." Prions are infectious proteins that cause abnormal folding of normal proteins in the brain, leading to brain damage and the characteristic symptoms of vCJD. The disease typically leads to death within 14 months of the onset of symptoms.
