The most common test for sciatica is called Lasègue's test, also known as the straight leg raise (SLR) test.
This test helps doctors determine if you have a herniated disc or another condition that's irritating the sciatic nerve. During the SLR test, a healthcare provider will have you lie on your back and then slowly lift one leg at a time, keeping the knee straight. The angle at which pain radiates down the leg, indicating sciatic nerve involvement, is noted. This helps in diagnosing sciatica and assessing the severity of the nerve compression.
