How is ultrasound done?

Published in Medical Imaging 1 min read

An ultrasound is performed using a handheld device that creates images of the inside of your body. Here's a breakdown of the process:

  • An ultrasound scan is performed using a hand-held scanner (transducer) connected to a computer. (Reference)

  • High-frequency sound waves are sent into the body from the transducer. (Reference)

  • As the sound waves penetrate the tissue and spread, they create echoes. (Reference)

  • The echoes are converted to electrical impulses. (Reference)

  • These electrical impulses are processed by the computer and displayed as a picture on a screen. (Reference)

In simpler terms, the handheld scanner sends sound waves into your body, and the echoes are used to create an image.
