What is the LBC test?

Published in Medical Testing 1 min read

The LBC test, or Liquid-Based Cytology test, is primarily used to detect cervical cancer and precancerous changes in the cervix.

This screening method improves upon the traditional Pap smear by collecting and preserving a sample of cells from the cervix in a liquid medium, leading to better sample quality and more accurate results. Besides detecting cancerous and precancerous cells, the LBC test can also identify certain infections of the cervix. It is typically recommended for women aged 25 to 65, and the frequency (every three to five years) is determined by a doctor.
