Clearing a chat on Messenger involves deleting the conversation from your view. Here's how to do it:
Steps to Delete a Messenger Conversation
-
Open the Messenger app: Launch the Messenger app on your smartphone or tablet.
-
Locate the Conversation: Find the specific conversation you want to remove from your chat list.
-
Swipe Left (iOS) or Long Press (Android):
- iOS (iPhone/iPad): Swipe left on the conversation.
- Android: Long-press (tap and hold) on the conversation.
-
Select "More" (iOS) or Tap Delete (Android):
- iOS: If you swiped left, tap "More."
- Android: After long pressing the conversation, a menu will appear. Tap "Delete".
-
Tap the "Delete" Button: On iOS, after selecting "More", tap the "Delete" button. On Android, tap "Delete" after the long press. Confirm your choice to delete the conversation.
Important Considerations:
- Deleting a conversation only removes it from your Messenger view. The other person(s) in the conversation will still have a copy of the chat unless they delete it on their end, too.
- There's no "delete for everyone" option in Messenger like in some other messaging apps.
- This process deletes the conversation, not the individual messages. There is no way to delete individual messages from someone else's view within Messenger.
- Deletion is permanent. Once you delete the conversation, it's gone from your view. If you want to keep a record, consider taking screenshots before deleting.
