How does mist form?

Published in Meteorology 1 min read

Mist forms when warmer water in the air is rapidly cooled, causing it to change from invisible gas to tiny visible water droplets. This happens when warm, moist air encounters a cooler surface, like land. The sudden change in temperature causes the water vapor in the air to condense into tiny droplets that we see as mist.

For example, mist often forms in the morning when the ground is cold after a night of clear skies. The warm, moist air from the previous day cools as it comes into contact with the cold ground, creating mist.
