"Fog mist" is not a recognized meteorological term. The terms "fog" and "mist" are used to describe the same phenomenon, but with varying levels of visibility. Fog is defined as a condition where microscopic water droplets reduce visibility to less than 1 kilometer (0.62 miles). Mist is considered a "light fog" where visibility is greater than 1 kilometer (0.62 miles).
Essentially, mist is a less dense form of fog. While fog can significantly impair visibility, mist typically only causes a slight reduction in visibility.
