How do I add another Excel file in Excel?

Published in Microsoft Excel 2 mins read

To add another Excel file into your current Excel workbook, you can embed it as an object:

  1. Go to the Insert Tab: In your Excel ribbon, click on the "Insert" tab.
  2. Choose Object: In the "Text" group (usually located towards the right side of the Insert tab), click on the "Object" dropdown arrow and select "Object...".
  3. Create from File: In the Object dialog box, select the "Create from File" tab.
  4. Browse and Select: Click the "Browse..." button and navigate to the Excel file you want to insert. Select the file and click "Insert."
  5. Choose Display Options (Optional): You can choose to display the Excel file as an icon by checking the "Display as icon" box. If you don't check this box, the first sheet of the Excel file will be displayed as an embedded object.
  6. Link vs. Embed (Optional): Checking the "Link to file" box will create a link to the original Excel file. Changes made to the original file will be reflected in the embedded object in your current workbook. If you don't check the "Link to file" box, the Excel file will be embedded as a separate copy, and changes made to the original file will not be reflected in the embedded object.
  7. Click OK: Click the "OK" button to insert the Excel file.

The other Excel file will now be embedded (or linked) into your current Excel workbook. Double-clicking on the embedded object (or icon) will open the linked or embedded Excel file.

It's important to note that this method embeds or links the entire Excel file. If you only need to copy data from one Excel file to another, the best method is to open both files and copy/paste the relevant data between them.
