How do you duplicate an image in MS Paint?

Published in MS Paint Basics 2 mins read

To duplicate an image (or a selection of an image) in MS Paint, you can use the cut, copy, and paste functions. Here's a breakdown of the steps:

  1. Select the portion you want to duplicate: Use the selection tools (Rectangular Selection or Free-form Selection) to select the area of the image you want to copy.
  2. Copy the Selection: Once selected, press Ctrl + C or click the "Copy" button in the "Clipboard" group on the "Home" tab. This copies the selected area to the clipboard.
  3. Paste the Selection: Press Ctrl + V or click the "Paste" button (also in the "Clipboard" group). A copy of the selected area will appear in the upper-left corner of the canvas, or where you last pasted.
  4. Move the Duplicate: Click and drag the duplicated selection to the desired location on your image.

Alternatively, you can also use the "Cut" function instead of "Copy." Using "Cut" (Ctrl + X) removes the selected portion from its original location and places it on the clipboard. The pasting process is the same, but the original area is left blank until you potentially fill it.
