Jerry Garcia, the iconic guitarist and vocalist of the Grateful Dead, famously lost a significant portion of his right middle finger.

The Accident

The accident occurred during Garcia's childhood. While helping his brother Tiff chop wood, young Jerry was tasked with steadying a piece of wood. Unfortunately, his hand was inadvertently placed in the path of the axe, resulting in the loss of approximately two-thirds of his right middle finger.

Impact on Garcia's Career

Despite this significant injury, Garcia persevered and went on to become one of the most influential guitarists in rock history. The missing portion of his finger did not deter him, and it's even been speculated that it may have contributed to his unique playing style.
