Dark musk, also known as Deer Musk or Musk Al Ghazal, is a substance originally derived from animals.
Origin of Dark Musk
- Animal Source: Dark musk is obtained from the perineal glands (pods) of animals like musk deer and African civets.
- Secretion: These glands produce secretions that eventually become musk.
- Extraction: The pods are removed from the animal and dried, typically on hot stones or in the sun.
- Preparation: After drying, the pods are opened to collect the raw, original black musk.
