How do you use gel nail tape?

Published in Nail Art 2 mins read

Gel nail tape, often called striping tape, is used in gel nail art to create crisp, clean lines and geometric designs. Here's how to use it:

  1. Apply your base gel color: Cure the base color completely under a UV or LED lamp according to the gel polish instructions.

  2. Apply the striping tape: Carefully place the striping tape onto your nail in the desired pattern. Ensure the tape is firmly adhered to the nail surface to prevent gel polish from seeping underneath. Use tweezers or a toothpick to help position the tape precisely.

  3. Apply your second gel color: Paint your second color over the nail above the striping tape. Use thin coats of gel polish to ensure even coverage and prevent thick edges. Cure under a UV or LED lamp.

  4. Remove the striping tape: While the gel polish is still slightly tacky (if your gel requires a tacky layer), gently peel off the striping tape using tweezers. Pull the tape slowly and carefully to avoid lifting the cured gel polish. If your gel has no sticky layer, you may need to add a thin layer of topcoat prior to tape application to aid removal.

  5. Apply top coat: Once you've removed the tape and are satisfied with the design, apply a final layer of gel top coat to seal the design and add shine. Cure under a UV or LED lamp according to the top coat instructions.
