Removable nails, often artificial nails like press-on nails or those using adhesive tabs, are removed differently than acrylic nails. The method depends on the type of adhesive used.
Removing Adhesive-Backed Nails
Most removable nails use adhesive tabs or glue. To remove these:
- Gently pry up a corner: Start at the edge of the nail, using a cuticle pusher or orangewood stick. Avoid pulling forcefully to prevent damaging your natural nail.
- Slowly peel: Once a corner is lifted, gently peel the nail away from your natural nail. Work slowly to prevent tearing or breaking the artificial nail.
- Remove residual adhesive: Use nail polish remover or adhesive remover to clean any remaining glue from your natural nail. A gentle scrub with a soft nail brush can help.
Tip: Soaking your nails in warm, soapy water for a few minutes before attempting removal can soften the adhesive and make the process easier.
Removing Nails with Adhesive Glue
Some removable nails use a stronger adhesive glue. If gentle prying doesn't work:
- Soak in nail polish remover: Saturate a cotton ball with acetone-based nail polish remover and place it over the nail.
- Wrap in foil: Wrap a piece of aluminum foil tightly around your fingertip to keep the cotton ball in place and the remover concentrated. Repeat for each nail.
- Let it soak: Allow the nails to soak for 10-15 minutes, or until the adhesive softens.
- Gently remove: After soaking, try gently prying up a corner and peeling the nail away. The softened adhesive should make this easier.
- Clean your nails: Use nail polish remover to remove any remaining adhesive.
Important Considerations
- Avoid harsh tools: Never use sharp objects like knives or metal files to remove nails, as this can damage your natural nails.
- Be patient: Removal may take time, especially with strong adhesives. Avoid rushing the process.
- Moisturize: After removal, moisturize your natural nails and cuticles to keep them healthy.
