How to Use a Nasal Pump

Published in Nasal Spray Use 2 mins read

Using a nasal pump is straightforward. Here's how to do it correctly:

Getting Started

  1. Hold the Pump: Grasp the nasal pump bottle securely. Place your thumb at the bottom and your index and middle fingers on top of the bottle. This provides a stable grip for controlled dispensing.

  2. Prepare for Insertion: Gently insert the tip of the nasal canister into one nostril. Aim the tip towards the back of your head, not straight up. This ensures proper delivery of the medication.

  3. Close the Other Nostril: Use a finger from your other hand to gently close off the nostril that's not receiving the medication. This prevents leakage and ensures the medicine goes where it should.

Dispensing the Medication

With the pump held and nostrils positioned, gently squeeze the bottle to release the medication. Follow the instructions on your specific nasal pump and medication for the proper dosage and number of pumps.

After Use

Once you've administered the medication, remove the pump from your nose. Gently wipe the tip of the pump to prevent contamination.

Important Considerations

  • Follow Instructions: Always refer to the instructions provided with your specific nasal pump and medication. Dosage and application techniques can vary.
  • Cleanliness: Maintain hygiene by cleaning the pump tip after each use.
