The following steps describe how to remove a nerve block catheter at home, based on instructions for removing an at-home continuous nerve infusion catheter:
- Sit down in a comfortable position.
- Take off the dressing covering the catheter insertion site.
- Firmly grasp the catheter near your skin.
- Gently pull the catheter out.
- Important: If you feel any sudden, sharp pain when you begin to pull, stop. Consult with your healthcare provider before proceeding.
- After removing the catheter, check the tip to ensure it has a black mark. This confirms that the entire catheter has been removed.
- Dispose of the catheter and pump in the trash.
