Published in Nerve Block Removal 1 min read

The following steps describe how to remove a nerve block catheter at home, based on instructions for removing an at-home continuous nerve infusion catheter:

  1. Sit down in a comfortable position.
  2. Take off the dressing covering the catheter insertion site.
  3. Firmly grasp the catheter near your skin.
  4. Gently pull the catheter out.
  5. Important: If you feel any sudden, sharp pain when you begin to pull, stop. Consult with your healthcare provider before proceeding.
  6. After removing the catheter, check the tip to ensure it has a black mark. This confirms that the entire catheter has been removed.
  7. Dispose of the catheter and pump in the trash.
