How do I enable or disable IPv6?

Published in Networking 2 mins read

You can enable or disable IPv6 through your network adapter settings in Windows. Here's how:

Steps to Enable or Disable IPv6

  1. Open Network & Internet Settings: Right-click the network icon in the notification tray (usually in the bottom right corner of your screen) and select "Open Network & Internet settings."

  2. Open Network and Sharing Center: In the Network & Internet settings window, click on "Network and Sharing Center."

  3. Access Adapter Settings: In the Network and Sharing Center, find and click on "Change adapter settings" on the left-hand side. This will show you a list of your network connections.

  4. Open Adapter Properties: Right-click on the network adapter you want to modify (e.g., Ethernet, Wi-Fi) and select "Properties." You may need administrator privileges to do this.

  5. Enable or Disable IPv6: In the properties window, find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" in the list.

    • To enable IPv6: Check the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)."
    • To disable IPv6: Uncheck the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)."
  6. Confirm Changes: Click "OK" to save your changes and then close the remaining windows.

After making the changes, your computer might need a few moments to adjust. You may need to restart your computer for the changes to fully take effect, though this is often not necessary.
