Two Main Types of Night Vision
There are two main ways night vision goggles work. Most kids' night vision toys use one of these ideas:
1. Image Enhancement (Like Super Hearing for Light!)
- Tiny Amounts of Light: Even when it seems dark, there's still a little bit of light bouncing around, especially infrared light (which we can't normally see).

- Heat as Light: Thermal imaging goggles don't look for light; they look for heat. They see the heat given off by objects.
- Different Colors for Different Temperatures: The goggles show different temperatures as different colors. Hotter things might be red or white, and cooler things might be blue or purple.
- Seeing the Difference: Because different things are different temperatures, you can see them even in total darkness. For example, a warm animal would stand out against a cooler background.
