Dry roasting nuts is a simple process that enhances their flavor and texture.
To dry roast nuts using an oven, begin by spreading them out in an even layer on a sheet pan. Next, pop them in a 350°F (175°C) oven.
The roasting time will vary depending on the type of nut:
- Lighter, more tender nuts like pecans, pistachios, and walnuts will generally take about 6-8 minutes.
- Denser nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, and macadamias will require a bit longer, needing closer to 8-10 minutes to finish toasting.
Keep a close eye on the nuts, especially as they near the end of the suggested time, as they can go from perfectly toasted to burnt quickly. They are done when they are fragrant and lightly browned.
