# Step-by-Step Removal Process

Published in Ocular Prosthesis Care 2 mins read

To remove an artificial (often referred to as a "fake") eye, a gentle and specific technique is used to ensure both the safety of the eye and your comfort.

Step-by-Step Removal Process

Based on best practices for caring for an artificial eye, the removal process involves precise steps to detach the prosthetic safely:

  1. Preparation: Begin by ensuring you have access to sterile or cooled boiled water. This is important for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene around the eye area throughout the removal procedure.
  2. Gaze Upwards: Position your eye by looking upwards. This action helps to slightly expose the lower part of the artificial eye and makes it easier to access the lower eyelid.
  3. Finger Placement: Carefully place your index finger along the lower lid of the eye containing the artificial prosthesis.
  4. Gentle Pressure and Movement: Once your index finger is positioned on the lower lid, gently press inwards. While maintaining this light, inward pressure, move your finger smoothly from the side of the nose towards the cheek. This specific motion is designed to carefully lift and release the artificial eye from its position.

Following these steps allows for the controlled and gentle removal of the artificial eye, an essential part of its regular care and maintenance.
