What drinks increase saliva?

Published in Oral Health 1 min read

Staying hydrated is crucial for keeping saliva production on track. Drinking 8-12 glasses of water daily is ideal. If you need a change from water, consider these options:

  • Sugar-free juices: These provide hydration without the added sugars that can actually contribute to dry mouth.
  • Reduced-sugar sports drinks: These can replenish electrolytes while helping to increase saliva production.
  • Club soda: The carbonation in club soda can stimulate saliva flow.
  • Herbal tea with lemon: The lemon can act as a natural stimulant for saliva production.

Additionally, sour and/or carbonated drinks can also increase saliva secretion and trigger the swallowing reflex.
