The organ that dies late is the skin. While the brain and nerve cells require constant oxygen and die within a few minutes after breathing stops, the skin can remain alive for a day. This is because the skin is not reliant on the same level of oxygenated blood flow as other vital organs.
Other organs that survive for a longer time after death include tendons, heart valves, and corneas. These tissues are less reliant on immediate blood flow and can be harvested for transplantation.
While it's true that the body as a whole is considered dead when brain function ceases, certain organs can continue to function for a period of time after death.
