How to Crop Around an Image in Paint 3D?

Published in Paint 3D Editing 2 mins read

To crop around an image in Paint 3D, use the "Magic Select" tool. Here's how:

  1. Open your image in Paint 3D.

  2. Select "Magic Select": In the top toolbar, usually on the left-hand side, find and click the "Magic Select" button.

  3. Adjust the Crop Box: A rectangular crop box will appear around your entire image. Drag the edges and corners of this box to roughly enclose the specific area you want to isolate, effectively selecting it for removal from its background. The closer the box is to the object you want to keep, the better the selection will be.

  4. Refine the Selection (Add/Remove): After adjusting the initial box, Paint 3D will try to automatically detect the object. If it misses parts you want to keep, use the "+ Add" brush to paint over those areas. If it includes parts you want to remove, use the "- Remove" brush to paint over them.

  5. Confirm the Selection: Once you're satisfied with your selection, click "Next" in the panel on the right side of the Paint 3D window.

  6. Choose to Cutout or Add to Canvas: On the next screen, you can choose to either cutout the selection which makes the background transparent around your selected area, or add it to the current canvas.

  7. Click Done: After finalizing, click the "Done" button on the right-side pane to complete the cropping process. Now you can move, resize, or save the cropped image.
