How Do I Move a Text Box in Paint.net?

Published in Paint.NET Editing 2 mins read

To move a text box in Paint.net, you need to do so before the text is committed to the canvas. Here's how:

  1. Select the Text Tool: Ensure you have the text tool selected from the Tools panel.
  2. Add Your Text: Type your text on the canvas.
  3. Locate the Move Icon: While the text is still editable (before you deselect it or start a new action), look for the pulsing Move Icon. This icon looks like four arrows pointing outwards from a square. It's typically located near the text box.
  4. Click and Drag: Use either the left or right mouse button to click and drag the Move Icon to reposition the text box wherever you want it on the canvas.
  5. Finalize the Position: Once you're happy with the placement, you can commit the text by deselecting it (e.g., by clicking on another tool or starting a new action). After this point, the text will be rasterized, and you won't be able to move it as a text box anymore. You'll need to use selection tools and move the pixels instead.

Once the text is rasterized (no longer editable as a text box), you will need to use the move tool or selection tools to move the pixels.
