How Do You Toggle Layers in Paint.net?

Published in Paint.net Layers 1 min read

In Paint.net, you don't toggle individual layers directly. Instead, you toggle the visibility of the Layers Window itself, which then allows you to manage individual layer visibility and properties.

Toggling the Layers Window:

You can toggle the visibility of the Layers Window in Paint.net in two ways:

  • Using the F7 Key: Press the F7 key on your keyboard to hide or show the Layers Window.
  • Using the Layers Window Icon: Click the Layers Window icon on the toolbar. Clicking it again will toggle the window's visibility.

Essentially, hiding the Layers Window is the only "toggle" related to layers in Paint.net. Once the Layers Window is visible, you can then control the visibility of each individual layer within your image using the checkbox next to each layer's name. Clicking the checkbox next to a layer will make it visible or invisible.
