After the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Pakistan initially maintained a constitutional monarchy with the British monarch as head of state, represented by a Governor-General. However, Pakistan became an Islamic Republic in 1956, abolishing the monarchy. The princely states within Pakistan, such as those in Swat and Hunza, also gradually lost their royal status and associated privileges. While descendants of former rulers still exist, they do not hold any official royal titles or functions within the Pakistani government or society. The prefix "Royal" was officially dropped when the Pakistani monarchy was abolished.
